Securo
2FA Authenticator

Support

Two-factor codes on iPhone, iPad and Mac, synced through your own iCloud.

Something wrong, missing or confusing? Write to me. I'm the one person who builds Securo, and I read every message myself.

It helps to include your device (for example iPhone 16 or MacBook Air), its iOS or macOS version, and what you expected to happen. Please never send secret keys, QR codes or screenshots that show them.

Getting started

How do I add an account?

When a website asks you to set up an authenticator app, it shows a QR code. In Securo, tap + and then:

  • Scan QR Code to use the camera (iPhone and iPad),
  • Choose Image or Choose File for a QR image saved in Photos or Files,
  • Paste from Clipboard for a copied otpauth:// link or QR image, or
  • Enter Manually and type the setup key the site shows under the QR code.

On the Mac, Scan Screen for QR Code reads the code straight off your screen. You can also drop a QR image onto the window.

How do I move my codes from Google Authenticator, 2FAS or Apple Passwords?
  • Google Authenticator: in Google Authenticator, use Transfer accounts > Export accounts. It shows one or more QR codes. On another device, open Securo, tap + > Scan QR Code and scan each one. If you only have one phone, take screenshots of the QR codes and use + > Choose Image instead.
  • 2FAS: export a backup file from 2FAS (with or without a password), then use + > Import in Securo and choose the file.
  • Apple Passwords: on the Mac, export your passwords as a CSV file, then import that file in Securo. Only the entries that have a verification code are brought in.
  • Anything else: a plain text file with one otpauth:// link per line works too.

Every import shows a preview first. Accounts you already have are detected and left unchecked, and nothing is saved until you confirm. Once you've checked that the codes work, delete the export file, because anyone who has it can generate your codes.

What about Microsoft Authenticator or Authy?

Neither app lets you export your accounts, so each one has to be set up again. For each account: sign in to the service, turn two-factor authentication off and on again (or choose "change authenticator app"), and scan the new QR code with Securo. Do one account at a time and keep the old app installed until every code works. Securo has a short guide for this in Settings > Move from Another App.

Codes and sync

A website says my code is wrong

Codes are worked out from your device's clock, so a clock that is even a minute off gives codes that are rejected.

  • iPhone and iPad: Settings > General > Date & Time > turn on Set Automatically.
  • Mac: System Settings > General > Date & Time > turn on Set time and date automatically.

If the clock is right, the account may have been set up again on the website, which makes the old QR code useless. Remove the account and scan the site's new QR code.

My accounts don't appear on my other device
  1. Both devices must be signed in to the same Apple Account, with iCloud turned on.
  2. iCloud Keychain must be on for both (on iPhone: Settings > your name > iCloud > Passwords). Securo's encryption key travels through it. If you see "Waiting for iCloud Keychain", the accounts have arrived and the key is still on its way; it usually shows up within a few minutes.
  3. Sync must be on in Securo's Settings on both devices.

Opening Securo on each device makes it check for changes straight away.

I'm getting a new iPhone, or I lost mine

With sync on, sign in to the same Apple Account on the new device, make sure iCloud Keychain is on, install Securo and open it. Your accounts come back on their own.

Without sync, make an encrypted backup first (Settings > Export > Encrypted Backup) and import it on the new device with the password you chose.

If you've lost your only device and had no sync or backup, Securo can't recover your codes. Nobody, including me, has a copy. Use the recovery codes each service gave you when you turned on two-factor authentication, or that service's account recovery.

How do I back up my accounts?

Go to Settings > Export > Encrypted Backup. You choose a password, and the file can only be opened with it. Keep the file somewhere safe (Files, a USB drive, your own cloud storage) and the password somewhere else. There is no way to reset a forgotten backup password.

Export also offers migration QR codes and a plain text list, for moving to another app. Those are not encrypted, so delete them once you're done.

Can I lock Securo or hide my codes?

Yes. In Settings, turn on Require Face ID (Touch ID or your password on devices without Face ID) to lock the app, and Hide Codes Until Tapped to keep codes masked until you tap one.

Does Securo work without internet?

Yes. Codes are generated on your device and never need a connection. Sync catches up the next time you're online.

Purchases

What does Unlimited include?

Securo is free for up to 10 accounts, with every feature included. Unlimited Accounts is a one-time purchase that removes the limit. It isn't a subscription, it covers iPhone, iPad and Mac, and it can be shared with your Family Sharing group.

I bought Unlimited, but this device doesn't show it

Make sure the device is signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account you bought it with, then tap Restore Purchases in Settings > About (on the Mac, the About tab of Settings). It's also on the purchase screen.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose Securo. I can't issue refunds myself, but I'd love to hear what didn't work for you.

On the Mac

Scan Screen asks for Screen Recording permission

macOS asks for this so Securo can read the QR code you pick. The image is used once, in memory, and never saved. If you said no earlier, turn Securo on in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording, then try again.

How do I open my codes with a keyboard shortcut?

In Securo's Settings > General, under Global Shortcut, click Record Shortcut and press the keys you want, for example Control-Option-Command-2. From then on that shortcut opens the menu bar list from any app. Type to search, press Return to copy the first match.

Can Securo live only in the menu bar?

Yes. Turn on Menu Bar Only in Settings > General. The Dock icon goes away, and "Open Securo" in the menu bar list brings the window back whenever you need it.
