Terms of Use
Effective Date: May 3, 2026 · Last Updated: May 22, 2026Bento — Killer Sudoku ("the App") is a Killer Sudoku puzzle game for iOS and Android, developed by Claudiu Sararu ("I," "me," or "the Developer"). The App is available on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the App.
The short version. Bento is a personal, non-transferable licence for you to enjoy the App on Apple or Android devices you own or control. There is one one-time purchase ("Bento Pro") that unlocks the full puzzle catalogue — no subscription, no recurring charges. On iOS, Apple's Standard EULA also applies; on Android, Google Play's Terms of Service apply. Be reasonable, don't redistribute the App, and we'll get along fine.
1. Acceptance of These Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Bento, you agree to these Terms. If you obtain the App from the Apple App Store, you also agree to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement ("Apple Standard EULA"), which applies in addition to these Terms. If you obtain the App from the Google Play Store, you also agree to Google Play's Terms of Service, which apply in addition to these Terms. If you do not agree to any of the foregoing, do not use the App.
2. The App
Bento is a Killer Sudoku puzzle game for iPhone, iPad, and Android phones and tablets. It includes:
- An Adult mode with hand-curated 9×9 Killer Sudoku puzzles across four difficulties (Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert).
- A Kids mode with smaller grids (4×4 for Easy/Medium, 6×6 for Hard/Expert) designed for teaching the Killer Sudoku mechanic to young learners.
- A daily puzzle that resets every day.
- Per-puzzle stats, favourites, and a streak counter.
The App runs entirely on your device and does not require a network connection or an account. The only network call the App makes is to Apple's StoreKit framework (iOS) or Google Play Billing (Android) when you tap "Unlock for Bento Pro" or "Restore Purchase."
3. Licence
Subject to your compliance with these Terms (and the Apple Standard EULA on iOS, or Google Play's Terms of Service on Android), the Developer grants you a personal, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to install and use Bento on Apple-branded or Android devices that you own or control.
You may not:
- Copy, reproduce, distribute, sublicense, lease, sell, or otherwise transfer the App or any portion of it.
- Modify, decompile, reverse engineer, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code of the App, except to the extent that this restriction is prohibited by applicable law.
- Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices in the App.
- Use the App to violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party right.
- Attempt to circumvent the in-app purchase mechanism that gates Bento Pro content.
4. In-App Purchases
Bento offers a single one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase called Bento Pro at US $5.99 (or local equivalent) that unlocks every puzzle in the adult and kids catalogues. Bento Pro is a one-time payment; there is no subscription and no recurring charge.
All in-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the StoreKit framework (iOS) or by Google through Play Billing (Android). The Developer does not receive, process, or store any payment information, credit card details, or billing data. On iOS, the transaction is recorded against the Apple ID used at the time of purchase; on Android, against the Google account used at the time of purchase. Bento Pro can be restored on any other device signed into the same store account via the "Restore Purchase" button in the App's Settings.
Refunds
Refunds for in-app purchases are handled by the platform store under its own refund policy. On iOS, visit reportaproblem.apple.com and follow Apple's instructions. On Android, visit Google Play Help → Refunds, or open the Play Store app → Menu → Payments & subscriptions → Budget & order history → tap the order → Request a refund. The Developer is not able to issue refunds directly on either platform.
5. Free Content and Catalogue Changes
Without Bento Pro, you may play the first three puzzles of every difficulty in both Adult and Kids modes (twenty-four puzzles in total) plus the daily puzzle, free of charge, indefinitely. The exact number of free puzzles, the catalogue size, and the price of Bento Pro may change over time. Any change applies prospectively only — content you have already unlocked stays unlocked.
6. Children
The Kids mode in Bento is designed to be safe for young children: there is no advertising, no in-app browser, no chat or social features, no data collection, and no contact with any external service except the platform store's purchase flow. Parents are responsible for supervising in-app purchases by minors using their devices. On iOS, Apple's "Ask to Buy" family-sharing feature is the recommended control if you wish to require parental approval for the Bento Pro purchase; on Android, Google Family Link parental controls (or per-purchase authentication in the Play Store app's Purchase verification settings) provide the equivalent control.
7. Privacy
Your privacy is important. Bento collects no personal information. Please see the separate Privacy Policy for full details.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
The App is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. The Developer does not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of harmful components, or that defects will be corrected.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above exclusions may not apply to you.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall the Developer be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from your use of or inability to use the App. The Developer's total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the App is limited to the amount you paid for the App and any in-app purchases in the twelve months preceding the claim.
10. Platform Stores' Role
Apple (iOS)
You acknowledge that these Terms are concluded between you and the Developer, not with Apple, and that Apple is not responsible for the App or its content. However, Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and has the right to enforce them against you.
The Developer is solely responsible for the App, its content, maintenance, and support. In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price (where applicable). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the App.
The Apple Standard EULA — which you accept by downloading the App on iOS — supersedes these Terms in the event of any conflict between them with respect to the matters it covers (such as scope of licence, restrictions on use, and Apple's role).
Google (Android)
You acknowledge that these Terms are concluded between you and the Developer, not with Google, and that Google is not responsible for the App or its content beyond Google's standard obligations as the operator of the Google Play Store. The Developer is solely responsible for the App, its content, maintenance, and support on Android.
Refunds and complaints about an Android purchase are handled by Google under Google Play's refund policy (see Section 4 → Refunds). Google Play's Terms of Service — which you accept by downloading the App from Google Play — apply alongside these Terms in the event of any conflict regarding matters they cover.
11. Changes to These Terms
The Developer may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be reflected in the App Store description and, where appropriate, surfaced in the App itself. Your continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. The current version is always available at sararu.net/bento/terms-of-use.html.
12. Termination
The licence granted in Section 3 remains in effect until terminated. It will terminate automatically without notice if you breach any of these Terms. Upon termination, you must stop using the App and delete it from your devices. Sections 8, 9, 10, and 13 survive termination.
13. Governing Law
On iOS, these Terms are subject to the governing-law and dispute-resolution provisions of the Apple Standard EULA, which forms the foundational licence under which you use the App. On Android, these Terms are governed by the laws of Romania (the Developer's place of residence), alongside the application of Google Play's Terms of Service to matters covered by those terms. In either case, any matters not addressed by the relevant store agreement are governed by the laws applicable in the jurisdiction in which you reside, to the extent required by mandatory consumer-protection law.
